Visa types

  • Visa-free entry stamp (used by most UK visitors): free, up to 90 days per visit, for tourism (no paid work)
  • Multiple-entry tourist visa (for longer or more frequent travel): arranged in advance via an airline or visa service, typically valid 5 years with each stay capped at 90 days
  • Golden Visa (long-term residency): for investors, specialists, and high performers, 5-10 year validity, applied for through UAE federal authorities with eligibility criteria
  • Work visa/residence permit: required separately for employment, sponsored by a UAE employer

Entry conditions

  • UK passport holders are stamped in visa-free for up to 90 days on arrival at any UAE airport or land border
  • No paid work is permitted on a visa-free tourist entry
  • The 90-day period was extended from the previous 30-day allowance; check gov.uk/u.ae for any updates before travel
  • Extensions beyond 90 days generally require leaving and re-entering the country, or applying for a different visa category through UAE immigration (GDRFA)

  • No VFS/BLS agency needed for the standard visa-free entry
  • On-arrival processing: a few minutes at e-gates (if registered) or standard immigration counters

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Dress and conduct guidelines in the UAE are more conservative than in the UK - check local etiquette, particularly outside tourist zones and during Ramadan
  • Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel booking and return ticket, as spot checks do occur
  • If your UAE stay is part of a longer Gulf trip, confirm whether your onward legs affect the 90-day calculation
