What you need

  • UK passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds, commonly cited as around EUR 65-120 per day depending on accommodation type, occasionally checked at the border
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 is recommended
  • No biometrics for visa-free entry; passport stamped on entry and exit
  • Once ETIAS launches, a short online pre-travel form and small fee will be required before departure

  • Keep proof of accommodation and return tickets accessible, especially for Eurostar and ferry crossings where checks can be more thorough

  • Register for ETIAS as soon as it is live, ideally at least 96 hours before travel
