Tajikistan Visa for United Kingdom Citizens 2026

UK citizens need an e-visa for Tajikistan - apply online at evisa.tj; single-entry fee around USD 50, processing 3 working days (express available in 3 hours for a higher fee).

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least 1 blank page
  • Digital passport-style photo (passport bio page photo upload accepted on the e-visa portal; separate printed photo not required for the e-visa itself but recommended to carry one)
  • Proof of onward or return travel (flight booking)
  • Confirmed accommodation booking (hotel reservation or invitation letter)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds (bank statement or card) if requested at the border
  • No biometrics required for the e-visa; fingerprints may be taken on arrival at some border posts
  • Travel health insurance is recommended but not mandatory for the standard e-visa

Visa types

  • Single-entry e-visa: tourism/business, 45 days validity to enter, stay up to 45 days, fee approx USD 50
  • Double-entry e-visa: approx USD 75, same 45-day stay allowance per entry
  • GBAO permit (Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region/Pamir Highway): separate add-on permit, approx USD 20, applied for alongside or after the e-visa if you plan to visit the Pamirs
  • Transit e-visa: up to 5 days, lower fee, for onward travel to a third country

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official portal evisa.tj (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan)
  • Create an account, complete the online form with passport and trip details, upload a scan of your passport bio page
  • Pay the fee online by card (approx USD 50 single-entry, billed in USD or TJS equivalent)
  • Standard processing: 3 working days; express service available for an extra fee with approval in as little as 3 hours
  • Approved e-visa is emailed as a PDF - print it and carry it with your passport; it is checked on arrival at Dushanbe airport or land borders

  • Single-entry e-visa: approx USD 50 (plus the GBAO permit, approx USD 20, if visiting the Pamirs)
  • Double-entry e-visa: approx USD 75
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee - payment is made directly on evisa.tj
  • Standard processing: 3 working days
  • Express processing: as fast as 3 hours for a higher fee (check current surcharge on the portal)

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Apply at least 1-2 weeks before travel to avoid express fees, though the system is usually fast
  • Double-check the spelling of your name and passport number before submitting - mismatches are the most common rejection reason
  • Add the GBAO permit at application time if your itinerary includes the Pamir Highway; retrofitting it later is slower
  • Keep a printed copy of the e-visa approval plus your passport - border posts outside Dushanbe can have unreliable internet
  • Extensions beyond 45 days must be arranged in person at the Ministry of Internal Affairs OVIR office in Dushanbe before the visa expires
