What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • A return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate, which is required for entry into Senegal
  • Travel health insurance is recommended

Visa types

  • No visa is required for UK citizens for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business
  • Longer stays, work or study require a residence permit (carte de sejour) applied for through the Senegalese immigration authorities after arrival

Entry conditions

  • Entry stamp issued free of charge on arrival at Dakar's Blaise Diagne International Airport or other entry points, permitting stays of up to 90 days
  • Employment is not permitted under this visa-free entry
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require an application to the Directorate of Police des Etrangers et des Titres de Voyage in Dakar
  • Travellers must present proof of yellow fever vaccination at the border; entry can be refused without it

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Carry your yellow fever vaccination certificate (carte jaune) at all times, as it is checked both on arrival and sometimes during domestic travel
  • Keep photocopies of your passport and vaccination certificate separate from the originals
  • French is the official language - having key phrases or a translation app can help outside Dakar
