What you need

  • Passport validity: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the planned return date from Russia and have at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: for e-Visa there is no paper form; apply online at https://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/ and print the approved e-Visa. for a sticker visa you typically need a filled visa application form (downloadable from the Russian embassy site) and a visa invitation or hotel confirmation.
  • Financial proof: not always required; if requested, provide bank statements for the last 3 months showing funds sufficient for the stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: provide hotel booking confirmation or invitation letter and evidence of a return or onward ticket.
  • Photo spec: two recent color photos 35x45 mm with a white background; head centered, facing the camera, no uniforms or sunglasses, taken within the last 6 months.
  • Biometrics: biometrics are generally not required for UK passport holders for standard visa applications unless explicitly requested by the consulate.
  • Travel health insurance: strongly recommended; ensure coverage for the duration of the stay in Russia (insurance should be valid in Russia).

  • Business visa: Official name Business visa; Validity up to 1 year; Maximum stay per visit up to 90 days; Entry: single or multiple; Approx. fee: 120–200 EUR.
  • Student visa: Official name Student visa; Validity to cover the course duration (often 1–5 years); Maximum stay per visit up to 90 days; Entry: multiple; Approx. fee: 120–200 EUR.
  • Work visa: Official name Work visa; Validity up to 1 year (or longer as per contract); Maximum stay per visit up to 90 days; Entry: multiple; Approx. fee: 180–250 EUR.

Application process

  • How to apply online (e-Visa): Go to https://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/ and follow the prompts to select the destination region and travel purpose; upload required documents (passport data page, photo, travel details) and submit a digital travel insurance, if prompted; pay the 0 USD fee (no payment required at the portal); you will receive the e-Visa by email after processing (print and carry it to Russia).
  • How to apply (Sticker visa): Prepare documents (passport, completed visa application form, visa invitation or hotel confirmation, photos, travel itinerary, travel medical insurance); submit via the Russian embassy in London or a designated visa center (VFS Global/TLS Contact as applicable); pay the consular fee and any visa-center service fees; standard processing is about 7–10 working days, express processing 3–5 days where available; in some cases an interview may be requested.
  • Interview: Usually not required for UK applicants, but the consulate may request an interview in certain cases.
