UK citizens can get a visa on arrival at Nepal's international airport or main land border crossings for stays of up to 90 days, or pre-register online to speed up the process.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond entry
  • One passport-sized photo (digital photo booths are available at Tribhuvan International Airport)
  • Completed arrival visa form, which can be pre-filled online via the Department of Immigration's online system for a reference number
  • Visa fee in cash (USD, GBP, or EUR accepted) or card at larger facilities
  • Onward travel details, though rarely checked strictly

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival: 15 days (around USD 30), 30 days (around USD 50), or 90 days (around USD 125), multiple entry
  • Business, Study, and Work visas must be arranged in advance with a Nepalese sponsor and are not issued on arrival

  • Pre-fill the arrival form online at nol.immigration.gov.np before flying to get a reference number and speed up processing
  • Pay the fee in cash or card at the airport counter
  • Have a digital photo taken on-site if you don't bring one
  • Processing at Kathmandu airport typically takes 20-45 minutes depending on queue length
  • The same facility is available at main land borders (e.g. Kakarbhitta, Belahiya), though queues can be longer
