What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of your entry into Malaysia.
  • Specific forms: There is no separate paper form for UK citizens. Apply online at windowmalaysia.my/evisa; the eVisa is issued electronically and linked to your passport.
  • Financial proof: No fixed bank statement needs to be uploaded or shown for an eVisa; you should have funds sufficient for your stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: You should have hotel or accommodation details for your stay; a return or onward flight is recommended and may be checked on arrival.
  • Photo spec: Upload a passport-style photo (35x50 mm) with a white background; full face, neutral expression; no head coverings unless for religious reasons; recent (within 6 months).
  • Biometrics: Biometrics are not required as part of the Malaysia eVisa application; you will present your passport at the border for verification.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory to obtain eVisa; however, travel health insurance is recommended.

Visa types

  • Tourist eVISA (Tourism): Official name: Malaysia eVISA – Tourism. Validity: 3 months from issue. Max stay: 30 days per visit. Entry: Single. Approx fee: RM50 (about USD12).
  • Business eVISA (Business): Official name: Malaysia eVISA – Business. Validity: 3 months from issue. Max stay: 30 days per visit. Entry: Single. Approx fee: RM50 (about USD12).
  • Student visa: Official name: Student Pass (Malaysia). Not available via the online eVisa portal. This is processed by your educational institution in coordination with the Malaysian Immigration Department. Fees vary; not issued online.
  • Work visa: Official name: Employment Pass / Work Permit. Not issued via the eVisa portal. Requires employer sponsorship and separate immigration process. Fees vary.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online for an eVisa: 1) Go to windowmalaysia.my/evisa and create an account. 2) Complete the online application form with your personal details as shown on your passport and your travel plans. 3) Upload required documents: scanned biographical data page of passport, a recent passport-style photograph, and any supporting documents requested (for example hotel bookings or flight itinerary). 4) Pay the visa fee of RM50 using online payment. 5) Wait for processing; typical processing time is 3 working days. 6) You will receive the eVisa approval by email; print a copy and carry it to Malaysia. On arrival, present your passport and eVisa approval at immigration. Note: There is no Visa on Arrival option for UK citizens; eVisa is the official route.

Tips for United Kingdom travelers
