British citizens can visit Iceland visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, as Iceland is part of the Schengen Area.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure from the Schengen area
  • Proof of return ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Accommodation details or tour itinerary
  • Travel insurance strongly recommended given Iceland's remote terrain and weather

Visa types

  • Short-stay Schengen visa-free entry - tourism, business and family visits, up to 90 days in any 180-day period
  • Long-stay or residence permit - required for stays beyond 90 days, work, or study, applied for through the Directorate of Immigration (Útlendingastofnun) in advance
