UK citizens can visit Finland visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period under Schengen rules, with an ETIAS travel authorisation (around EUR 7) expected to become mandatory from late 2026.

What you need

  • UK passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area, issued within the last 10 years
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking, rental agreement, or invitation)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for your stay, which Finnish border guards can request although checks are inconsistent
  • Travel health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 is recommended, not legally mandatory for visa-exempt UK visitors
  • No biometrics are taken for visa-free entry; your passport is stamped on entry and exit
  • Once ETIAS launches, a short online pre-travel form and small fee will be required

  • Schengen short-stay exemption: tourism, business, and family visits, up to 90 days in any 180-day period, multiple entries
  • Finnish national D-visa: for stays over 90 days, study, or certain work purposes; applied for at the Finnish Embassy in London before travel
  • Residence permit: required for longer-term work, study, or family reunification, applied for through Finnish Immigration Service (Migri)

  • No VFS or agency fees apply since there is no visa application for short stays
