British citizens can enter Belarus visa-free for up to 30 days when arriving via Minsk National Airport, under Belarus's unilateral visa-free regime; entry via land borders still generally requires a visa.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the end of your stay
  • Arrival and departure must both be through Minsk National Airport to qualify for the visa-free regime - land borders with Poland, Lithuania and Latvia generally still require a visa
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host's address)
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Travel health insurance with minimum coverage of EUR 10,000 - specifically required under the visa-free scheme and may be checked on arrival
  • No biometrics required for the visa-free entry
  • Sufficient funds for the stay, may be checked

Visa types

  • Not applicable for the visa-free 30-day regime via Minsk Airport
  • Standard tourist, business and transit visas are available through the Belarusian embassy in London for travellers entering via land borders or staying longer than 30 days
  • A separate 5-day visa-free transit regime also exists at certain border points

Entry conditions

  • Maximum stay: 30 days per visit under the visa-free regime, with a cap on total days per calendar year periodically reviewed by Belarusian authorities
  • Must arrive and depart via Minsk National Airport to remain covered by the visa waiver
  • No work is permitted on the visa-free entry
  • Mandatory travel insurance meeting the minimum required coverage should be arranged before departure, or can be purchased at the airport if needed
  • Extensions are not available under the visa-free scheme - you must leave before the 30 days expire

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee for the visa-free 30-day entry via Minsk Airport
  • Travel insurance, if not already held, can be purchased at Minsk Airport for a modest cost, typically under EUR 10-15
  • No VFS/BLS fee - no visa process is required for eligible entries
  • No processing time - the entry stamp is issued directly on arrival

Tips for United Kingdom travelers

  • Double-check your flight routes - entry and exit must both be via Minsk National Airport, arriving or leaving via a land border voids the visa-free eligibility
  • Carry proof of valid travel insurance meeting the EUR 10,000 minimum, border officers can and do check this
  • Check the latest FCDO travel advice before booking, as it currently advises against travel to Belarus
  • There are no UK diplomatic services operating in Belarus at present, so plan accordingly for any problems during your stay
  • If entering by land or staying over 30 days, arrange a standard visa through the Belarusian embassy in London well in advance, processing can take 2 weeks or more
