Sri Lanka Visa for Pakistan Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

Pakistani citizens need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for Sri Lanka, applied for online before departure through the official ETA portal; fee USD 50 for a short-stay tourist ETA, with approval usually within minutes to 24 hours.

Guide last updated October 20, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival
  • A digital passport photo and scanned bio-data page for the online application
  • Confirmed return/onward flight itinerary
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) for the stay
  • Proof of sufficient funds (approximately USD 15 per day recommended, not strictly enforced)
  • A valid email address to receive the ETA approval
  • Biometrics are not required in advance; a photo may be taken on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist ETA: single or double entry, valid for 30 days from arrival, extendable
  • Business ETA: single entry, 30 days, for short business visits
  • Transit ETA: for passengers transiting through Sri Lanka for less than 2 days

Visa on arrival

  • Apply online through Sri Lanka's official ETA portal before departure, filling in passport and travel details
  • Pay the fee by credit/debit card; the ETA approval is emailed, usually within minutes but can take up to 24 hours
  • Print or save the ETA confirmation and present it with your passport at immigration on arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport
  • Immigration verifies the ETA and stamps the passport; no additional payment or visa sticker is needed on arrival if the ETA was obtained in advance
  • Travelers who arrive without a pre-approved ETA may, in limited cases, apply at the airport counter for an additional fee, but pre-arrival application is strongly advised

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist ETA fee: USD 50 for most nationalities including Pakistan (double-entry)
  • No separate service fee if applied directly through the official government portal
  • Standard processing: usually within minutes, up to 24 hours in some cases
  • No express fee needed given the fast standard turnaround

Tips for Pakistan travelers

  • Apply only through the official eta.gov.lk website; third-party sites often charge inflated fees for the same service
  • Apply at least a few days before travel to leave margin for any processing delays
  • Carry a printed copy of the ETA approval along with your passport
  • The ETA can be extended twice for a total stay of up to 90 days by applying through the Department of Immigration in Colombo
  • Keep your return ticket and hotel booking accessible, as immigration officers may ask to see them on arrival
