Guide last updated October 19, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of the intended stay in Canada, with at least 1 blank page.
  • Completed online Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) application via the IRCC portal
  • Digital passport-style photo meeting Canadian specifications
  • Proof of funds (bank statements for the last 6 months)
  • Letter of invitation from a host in Canada, if applicable
  • Proof of ties to Pakistan (property, employment, family) to demonstrate intent to return
  • Travel history (previous visas and stamps) supporting the application
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) collected in person at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore
  • Employment letter/NOC or business registration and tax returns for self-employed applicants
  • Travel medical insurance is recommended though not mandatory for most visitor categories

Visa types

  • Single-entry Visitor Visa: valid for the approved stay (usually up to 6 months per visit), fee CAD 100
  • Multiple-entry Visitor Visa: commonly issued by default, allows multiple visits during the passport's validity (up to 10 years), fee CAD 100
  • Super Visa: for parents/grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents, valid up to 10 years, allows stays of up to 5 years per entry, fee CAD 100, requires Canadian medical insurance proof
  • Transit Visa: free of charge, for travelers transiting through a Canadian airport who need a TRV

How to apply

  • Apply online through the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) website.
  • Create an IRCC secure account and complete the online TRV application form
  • Upload all required documents, including the digital photo and proof of funds
  • Pay the CAD 100 processing fee online
  • Book and attend a biometrics appointment at the VAC in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore, paying the CAD 85 biometrics fee
  • Track the application status online; if approved, the eTRV is linked electronically to the passport, and in most cases no physical sticker is needed unless specifically requested

Fees & processing time

  • TRV processing fee: CAD 100 (about PKR 26,000)
  • Biometrics fee: CAD 85 (about PKR 22,000)
  • VAC service fee for biometrics appointment: approximately PKR 3,500-5,000 additional
  • Standard processing time: historically 8-12 weeks for Pakistan-based applications, though it can extend to several months depending on volume and additional security checks
  • No official expedited/priority service for standard visitor visas from Pakistan

Tips for Pakistan travelers

  • Apply at least 3-4 months before the planned travel date given the longer processing times typically seen for Pakistani applicants
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient proof of funds, weak ties to Pakistan, unclear purpose of visit, or incomplete financial documentation
  • Strong, well-documented travel history and clear intent to return to Pakistan significantly improve approval chances
  • Keep certified translations of any Urdu documents and ensure bank statements are stamped by the bank
  • Extensions of stay inside Canada can be applied for online before the current authorization expires, through IRCC's visitor extension (visitor record) process
