US citizens can apply for Uzbekistan e-visa (Tourist or Business) online at https://e-visa.gov.uz; standard processing is 3 business days with a USD 20 visa fee, allowing a stay up to 30 days on a single-entry visa.

What you need

  • Passport validity must be at least 3 months beyond the planned exit date from Uzbekistan.
  • There are no paper forms for the e-visa; apply online at https://e-visa.gov.uz and upload required documents: scanned biographical page of your passport and a color passport-style photo.
  • Financial proof: no fixed bank balance requirement is published for the e-visa; you should have enough funds to cover a 30-day stay and any planned activities.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter) is recommended; have onward/return tickets available for border control.
  • Photo specification: 1 recent color photo, 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm), white background, full face centered, no hats or sunglasses, no excessive editing; image should be JPG with minimum 300 dpi.
  • Biometrics: not required for the e-visa; the visa is issued electronically; carry a printed copy of the e-visa or have it accessible on your device at entry.
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory for the e-visa; recommended to have coverage during travel.

  • Work visa: not available via the online e-visa system; not eligible for e-visa; contact the Embassy of Uzbekistan for the appropriate visa route.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: go to https://e-visa.gov.uz and create an account, complete an application, select Tourist or Business, upload passport scan and photo, and pay the visa fee using a credit/debit card or other accepted online methods.
  • Fee: USD 20 for standard processing; local currency equivalent will be shown during payment (UZS equivalent at time of payment).
  • Processing time: standard processing about 3 business days; express processing available for a faster option (check current offerings on the portal).
  • Approval: once approved, the e-visa is issued electronically; you will receive a notification in your portal and by email; print the e-visa and carry it for border control.
  • If denied: you will be notified through the portal/email with the reason for denial.

Tips for United States travelers

  • Apply at least 7–14 days before travel to ensure processing time and to account for any potential issues.
  • Common rejection reasons for US applicants: passport validity less than required (less than 3 months beyond planned stay), mismatch in personal data between passport and application, photo not meeting specifications, incomplete documents, or insufficient funds noted for the stay.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: Uzbekistan e-visa is issued online; U.S. applicants typically use the e-visa portal. For other visa types (work, student, long-term stays) you may need to apply via the Uzbek embassy or consulate.
  • Travel advisories: check the U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Uzbekistan and follow guidance from the Uzbek MFA; verify entry requirements close to your travel date.
