What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of entry and have at least 1 blank page for entry stamps.
  • Specific forms: no DS-160 etc. required for Tajikistan e-Visa; apply online at https://www.evisa.tj/ and upload the following documents: passport data page scan, digital photo (see photo spec), and any invitation letter or hotel booking if required by type.
  • Financial proof: no fixed bank statement requirement for the e-Visa itself; you may be asked to show funds at border if requested by immigration.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: provide hotel name/address in Tajikistan or an invitation letter, and have a return/onward ticket available.
  • Photo spec: digital photo 3.5 × 4.5 cm (35 × 45 mm), color, white background, JPEG, max 1 MB.
  • Biometrics: no on-appointment biometric submission required for online e-Visa; biometric collection may occur only if requested on arrival.
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory for the e-Visa, but recommended to have coverage for the duration of stay.

Tips for United States travelers

  • Apply well before travel: at least 5–7 business days in advance is recommended; allow extra time during peak travel periods.
  • Common rejection reasons for U.S. applicants: passport validity under 6 months; mismatched personal data between passport and e-Visa; missing or incorrect invitation/hotel details; incomplete documents uploaded; payment issues.
  • Online vs. embassy processing: Tajikistan e-Visa is applied for online at evisa.tj; no VFS/BLS intermediary is required for the online route; for other visa types or longer stays, contact the Tajikistan embassy/consulate.
  • Travel advisories: check the U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Tajikistan before planning travel and follow any security guidance; be aware of border region advisories and current safety information.
  • Extension options: extensions of an e-Visa are not generally possible from within Tajikistan; to stay longer you typically need to depart Tajikistan and reapply or seek guidance from the Migration Service if you plan to switch visa type.
