Tips for United States travelers

  • Apply at least 2–3 weeks before travel to account for processing and possible delays.
  • Common rejection reasons (US applicants specifically): incomplete online form, passport data mismatch, blurry or non-clear passport scan/photo, hotel bookings or invitation letter not provided when required, inconsistencies between travel dates and itinerary, insufficient funds confirmation when requested.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: Senegal currently offers online e-visa via visasenegal.sn; no VFS in the US for e-visa; consular visas require visiting a Senegalese embassy/consulate and may involve a separate appointment.
  • Travel advisories and notes: check the U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Senegal; ensure yellow fever vaccination certificate if required; carry a copy of your travel health insurance and emergency contacts.
  • Extension options inside Senegal: visa extensions may be possible from the local Police des Etrangers or immigration office in Dakar; durations and requirements vary; apply before current visa expires.
