Tips for United States travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Submit at least 2–3 weeks before your intended travel date to account for processing times and potential delays.
  • Common rejection reasons for United States applicants specifically: Passport validity less than 6 months, passport with insufficient blank pages, inconsistencies between application purpose and uploaded documents, missing hotel or invitation letters, or failure to provide coherent travel plans.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For the online e-visa, apply directly via the official portal https://onlinemfa.gov.pk/; VFS/BLS are not used for e-visa applications. Only traditional sticker visas (if pursued) may involve embassy/consulate procedures.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the U.S. Department of State travel advisory for Pakistan and the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel notices for any country-specific guidance; comply with current entry rules and health requirements.
  • Extension options inside Pakistan: If you need to stay longer, request an extension before the current visa expires through the relevant immigration authority (FRRO/Immigration Office); extensions are granted on a case-by-case basis and are not guaranteed.
