What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 1 month beyond your planned stay (many travelers carry 6 months validity as a practical buffer)
  • No visa or application form required for stays up to 30 days
  • Proof of onward or return travel may be requested
  • Proof of accommodation or itinerary is useful to carry
  • No photo required since no visa is filed
  • Biometrics: fingerprint and photo may be collected at self-service immigration kiosks, as with most visitors
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but recommended

Visa types

  • No visa category applies to tourist visits by US citizens under the visa-free arrangement
  • Work or study visa: required for employment or enrollment, applied for through Macao's Public Security Police Force or relevant ministry
  • Business visits for meetings or conferences generally fall under the same 30-day visa-free allowance as tourism

  • Macao's casinos and major hotels widely accept US dollars, though Macao pataca and Hong Kong dollars are the main currencies
