US citizens can get a visa on arrival at Kuwait's airports for up to 90 days, or apply in advance via Kuwait's e-visa portal (evisa.moi.gov.kw); fee is about KWD 3 (~$10), and processing takes minutes on arrival or 1-3 business days online.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least one blank page
  • No separate application form needed for visa on arrival; e-visa applicants complete the online form at evisa.moi.gov.kw
  • Proof of a confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Sufficient funds for the length of stay (border officers may ask to see this)
  • Passport-size photo (white background) if applying for the e-visa online; not required for visa on arrival
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and a photo are taken on arrival at Kuwait International Airport for all visa categories
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but strongly recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist visa (visa on arrival or e-visa): single entry, valid for up to 90 days, non-renewable from inside Kuwait
  • Visit visa (sponsor-based): for visiting family or friends, requires a Kuwaiti sponsor, valid up to 90 days
  • Business visa: requires an invitation letter from a Kuwaiti company, valid up to 90 days, single or multiple entry
  • All three are available to US citizens; the tourist visa on arrival is the simplest route for short trips.

  • Available at Kuwait International Airport (and other official ports of entry) to US passport holders
  • Go to the visa-on-arrival counter before immigration, pay the fee in KWD or USD, and get the stamp
  • Fee: approximately KWD 3 (about $10), payable in cash or card
  • Processing takes only a few minutes at a quiet counter, longer at peak arrival times
  • Alternatively, apply ahead of time through the official e-visa portal at https://evisa.moi.gov.kw/ to skip the counter; approval usually comes within 1-3 business days by email
  • Bring a printed copy of the e-visa approval if you apply online
