Visa types

  • Work requires a work permit sponsored by a Barbadian employer, applied for separately before travel
  • The Barbados Welcome Stamp (remote work visa) is a separate 12-month visa for remote workers, applied for online in advance with proof of income

Entry conditions

  • Up to 180 days per visit, at the discretion of the immigration officer who stamps the passport
  • No local paid employment permitted under the visitor stay, except for Welcome Stamp holders working remotely for non-Barbadian employers
  • Complete the immigration/customs form on arrival, listing accommodation and return travel details
  • Extensions beyond the stamped period can be requested at the Barbados Immigration Department in Bridgetown

  • No processing time, since entry is immediate at the border
  • Extension fee, if needed, is modest (typically under $100), processed within a few business days
  • Welcome Stamp, if applied for instead: $2,000 application fee for individuals, processed online in about 5-7 business days

  • The immigration officer decides the exact number of days stamped — check your passport stamp before leaving the airport
  • Carry proof of your return flight and accommodation, the most commonly requested documents
  • The U.S. Embassy is located in Bridgetown and also covers several other Eastern Caribbean nations
  • Hurricane season (June-November) can disrupt flights — build in buffer time for your return
  • If planning a long remote-work stay, apply for the Welcome Stamp in advance rather than relying on the standard tourist waiver for work purposes
