US citizens can apply for an Albania e-Visa (Tourist or Business) online at https://www.e-albania.al/; fee from EUR 20; processing 1–3 business days; stay up to 90 days per entry.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure date from Albania.
  • Specific forms: No separate Albanian visa form; complete the online e-Visa application on https://www.e-albania.al/. DS-160 or UK VAF forms are not used for Albania e-Visa.
  • Financial proof: No published fixed bank statement amount is required for the e-Visa; you should have funds to cover travel and stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Proof of accommodation is not required to apply, but border control may ask for onward travel or accommodation details upon arrival.
  • Photo spec: Upload a passport-style photo (35x45 mm) with a white background in JPG/PNG format.
  • Biometrics: Online e-Visa does not require in-person biometrics submission; biometrics may be requested at an Albanian embassy/consulate if applying through that channel.
  • Travel health insurance: Recommended but not mandatory.

  • Work e-Visa: Not currently offered via the e-Visa portal for US citizens; for work purposes, check with the nearest Albanian embassy/consulate for available options.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: Go to https://www.e-albania.al/ and create an account.
  • Steps: Select the e-Visa option (Tourist or Business); fill in applicant details; upload passport scan and a digital photo; pay the visa fee with a credit or debit card.
  • After payment: You will receive the e-Visa by email or it will appear in your e-albania account; print the e-Visa and carry it along with your passport.
  • On arrival: Present the e-Visa and your passport to Albanian border authorities.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: EUR 20 per applicant (approximate USD equivalent around USD 22–23 depending on exchange rate).
  • VFS/BLS service fee: Not applicable for online e-Visa.
  • Total cost estimate: EUR 20 per applicant (excluding payment processing fees charged by the portal).

  • Express/priority option: Not publicly listed on the portal; check the e-Albania site for any updates or expedited options.

Tips for United States travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Apply at least 3–5 business days before travel; during peak seasons allow up to 2 weeks.
  • Common rejection reasons for US applicants: Incomplete or inconsistent data, passport not valid for required period, photo upload issues, or mismatch between stated travel purpose and visa type.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: An online e-Visa is processed through the e-Albania portal; most applicants do not need VFS/BLS; if you cannot use the online system or need a different visa type, contact the nearest Albanian embassy/consulate.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the U.S. State Department travel advisory for Albania and ensure your passport remains valid for the duration of your stay; review current health and safety guidance.
  • Extension options inside Albania: Extensions beyond 90 days are not automatically granted on arrival; if you need a longer stay, you should depart and pursue a new e-Visa or obtain a long-term permit via Albanian authorities (Immigration Directorate) before your current visa expires.
