Ukraine Visa for China Citizens 2026

Chinese citizens can travel to Ukraine on an e-visa (Tourist or Business) applied online at the official portal; fees start from EUR 60; processing typically 3–5 business days.

What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned date of exit from Ukraine, and have at least two blank pages.
  • Specific forms: complete the online e-visa application form on the official portal at https://dmsu.gov.ua/; no DS-160 or similar separate form is required.
  • Financial proof: bank statements for the last 3 months showing funds sufficient to cover the trip; acceptable threshold is at least 1000 EUR or its equivalent in local currency for the duration of stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: confirmed hotel bookings or an invitation letter from a host in Ukraine; round-trip ticket or onward travel ticket.
  • Photo spec: one recent passport-style photo in JPEG format, 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm) with a white background; taken within the last 6 months.
  • Biometrics: biometrics are not required to be submitted separately for the online e-visa; collection may occur at border control if requested by authorities.
  • Travel health insurance: mandatory travel medical insurance with minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR for medical care and repatriation for the duration of the stay, valid in Ukraine.

  • Business visa (e-visa) — official name: Business visa (e-visa); validity up to 90 days; maximum stay up to 90 days in a 180-day period; entry: single; approximate fee: EUR 60.
  • Student visa — official name: Student visa (Type D) via embassy/consulate (not typically issued as an e-visa); validity varies (often 1 year or longer); multi-entry possible depending on approval; fee: set by embassy (commonly in the range of EUR 100–200).
  • Work visa — official name: Work visa (Type D) via embassy/consulate (not typically issued as an e-visa); validity and entries depend on credential and contract; fee: set by embassy.
  • Private/family visit visa — official name: Private/family visit visa (often not issued as e-visa); handled through embassy/consulate; duration and entries depend on case; fee: set by embassy.

How to apply online

  • Steps: 1) Create an account and log in 2) Fill the e-visa application form 3) Upload required documents (passport data page, photo, travel insurance, hotel or invitation letter, proof of funds, flight itinerary) 4) Pay the e-visa fee online with a card 5) Receive the decision by email; if approved, you will get an e-visa authorization letter that you should print and carry with your passport to border control.

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply well in advance: start at least 15–20 days before travel to accommodate processing and potential document checks.
  • Common rejection reasons for China applicants: passport validity issues, insufficient funds, mismatch between travel plan and documents (hotel bookings, invitation letters), incomplete or unclear purpose of visit, travel health insurance missing or insufficient coverage.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: for e-visa, apply directly online via the official portal (dmsu.gov.ua); traditional visa centers are not used for the e-visa route.
  • Travel advisories and bilateral notes: check the Ukrainian MFA page and your local Chinese government advisories for any updates on entry rules, health requirements, or sanctions that may affect travel.
  • Extension options inside Ukraine: extensions of short-term stays (up to 90 days) are generally not granted from within Ukraine; if you need a longer stay, plan a visa change or re-entry from outside Ukraine according to current rules.
