What you need

  • Passport validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended date of entry, and you should have at least 1 blank visa page.
  • Specific forms: Visit Pass application can be submitted online via the ICA e-services (Apply for Visit Pass). If applying through a Singapore overseas mission, you may use Form 14A (Application for Visit Pass) as instructed by the mission.
  • Financial proof: There is no fixed minimum amount published for all applicants; you may be asked to show you have sufficient funds for your stay. If requested, provide bank statements for the last 3–6 months and evidence of employment/income.
  • Accommodation and return ticket requirements: Have hotel bookings or an invitation letter from a Singapore host, and a return or onward air ticket.
  • Photo spec: Two recent passport-style photos, 35 x 45 mm, white background, taken within the last 3 months; photos must be clear and meeting Singapore visa photo standards.
  • Biometrics: Typically not required at the initial submission; if requested by the mission or visa processing centre, you may be asked to provide biometrics at the designated centre.
  • Travel health insurance: Not mandatory for entry, but recommended to have coverage for your stay in Singapore.

Visa types

  • Visit Pass (Temporary) – Tourist/Social Visit: Official name Visit Pass (Temporary); Validity up to 30 days per entry; Single-entry; Approximate fee SGD 30.
  • Visit Pass (Temporary) – Business Visit: Official name Visit Pass (Business); Validity up to 30 days per entry; Single-entry; Approximate fee SGD 30.
  • Student Pass: For study in Singapore; Official name Student Pass; Valid for the duration of the course; Multiple-entry access during the course period (as per institution and ICA); Fee structure varies; typically the Student Pass application is handled by the educational institution and ICA.
  • Employment Pass/S Pass/Work Permit: For work in Singapore; Official names Employment Pass, S Pass, or Work Permit; Validity and entry conditions depend on the type of pass and employer’s arrangements; Fees are set by the processing entity and are not a standard visitor visa fee.

Application process

  • How to apply online (e-Visa/eTA): Go to https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-transit-depart/entering-singapore and use the Visit Pass online application. Steps: create an account, complete the Visit Pass application form, upload required documents, pay the SGD 30 visa fee, and submit. Processing time is typically 3–5 working days. When approved, you will receive a digital Visit Pass linked to your passport in the ICA system; print or save the approval and present it along with your passport at immigration.
  • Visa on arrival: Not available for Chinese passport holders for Singapore;
  • you must have an approved Visit Pass before travel unless you hold a different eligible status.
  • Sticker visa / embassy route: If applying via a Singapore overseas mission, you may submit supporting documents in person or via an authorized visa agent (if applicable). Document checklist generally includes passport, Form 14A, photos, flight/hotel details, and financial proof. Fees (SGD 30) apply plus any agent/service fees; processing times typically 3–7 working days, subject to mission discretion. Interviews may be required at the mission’s discretion.

  • Express/priority: Singapore visa processing generally follows standard timelines; some missions may offer expedited services at higher, mission-specific fees; availability and cost vary by mission.

Tips for China travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before your planned travel date to allow for processing and potential additional document requests.
  • Common rejection reasons (China applicants): Incomplete application or inconsistent information; passport validity not meeting 6-month rule; insufficient funds or lack of supporting documents; mismatched travel plans; poor-quality photos; failure to provide required letters or invitations when applicable.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy: If you can apply directly online via the ICA portal, that is the standard route; some travellers use a Singapore overseas mission or an authorized visa agent to submit documents on their behalf; ensure the agent is legitimate and listed by the mission.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check the Singapore MFA and ICA pages for any updated travel advisories, visa policy changes, or bilateral notes affecting Chinese travelers.
  • Extension options inside Singapore: If you are in Singapore on a Visit Pass, you may apply to extend your Stay Pass at ICA before your current pass expires; extensions are at ICA’s discretion and subject to visa policies, with a maximum total stay often limited; consult the ICA website for current rules and procedures.
