What you need

  • Photo spec: Upload a recent passport-style photo meeting standard dimensions (35x45 mm or 2x2 inches) with a white background, clear front view; no glasses in some cases; ensure high resolution and facial visibility.
  • Biometrics: No pre-submission biometrics required online; immigration authorities at entry may collect biometric data if required.
  • Travel health insurance: Recommended but not mandated for the e-visa.

  • Transit e-visa: Official name Transit e-visa; Validity 7 days from date of issue; Maximum stay 7 days; Entries Single; Approx fee USD 20 (SSP about 12,000, subject to exchange rate).
  • Note: Availability of additional categories (e.g., student or work) as e-visas varies; if not offered online, those categories require embassy processing.

How to apply online

  • Portal URL: https://www.southsudanembassy.org/ (official portal for visa applications; follow the e-visa link from the embassy site).
  • Steps:
  • 1) Create an account or log in on the e-visa portal.
  • 2) Select visa type (Tourist, Business, or Transit) and complete applicant information with passport details, travel plans, and contact information.
  • 3) Upload required documents: passport bio page, digital passport photo, hotel booking or invitation letter, travel itinerary and return/onward ticket.
  • 4) Pay the visa fee online by credit/debit card; note the fee in USD and the local currency equivalent (SSP).
  • 5) Submit the application; you will receive an application reference and payment receipt.
  • 6) Processing time is typically 3–5 working days; you will be notified by email when the e-visa is approved.
  • 7) Approval arrives as an e-visa PDF by email; print a copy or save to show on entry along with your passport.
  • If additional documents are required, you will be notified by email through the portal.

Tips for China travelers
