Slovakia Visa for China Citizens 2026

Chinese citizens need a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) to Slovakia for tourism or business — apply in person at the Slovak embassy/consulate or designated visa center; visa fee €80; processing about 15 days.

What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 3 months after your intended date of departure from the Schengen area; issued within the last 10 years; at least 2 blank pages.
  • Specific forms: Schengen visa application form (print and sign); download from the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs site (https://www.mzv.sk/en).
  • Financial proof: last 3 months bank statements and/or salary slips; credible proof of funds to cover the stay; there is no fixed minimum amount published by Slovakia; provide funds sufficient for travel, accommodation and living costs for the trip.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: confirmed hotel bookings for the entire stay or an invitation letter from a host in Slovakia; round-trip flight reservation or onward travel proof.
  • Photo spec: one recent color passport photo, 35x45 mm, white background, head should be between 24-34 mm from chin to top of head, no glasses if possible; photo not older than 6 months.
  • Biometrics: yes; biometrics are required if you have not supplied biometrics for Schengen visa within the last 59 months; submit at the visa application center or embassy during your appointment.
  • Travel health insurance: mandatory travel medical insurance with minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR, valid for all Schengen states and for entire duration of the stay.

Visa types

  • Short-stay Schengen visa (Type C) – Tourism: valid for up to 90 days within a 180-day period; single or multiple entry; typical fee 80 EUR; processing around 15 days.
  • Short-stay Schengen visa (Type C) – Business: same conditions as tourist; multiple entries possible depending on justification; fee 80 EUR; processing around 15 days.
  • Short-stay Schengen visa (Type C) – Family/friends visit: same conditions; fee 80 EUR; processing around 15 days.
  • Long-term national visa (Type D) – Study/Work/Family reunification: for stays longer than 90 days; validity and entries depend on purpose; fee around 60 EUR (subject to official charges); processing times longer; requires separate residence permit later.

  • Step 5: Biometrics capture during appointment; you may be interviewed if requested.
  • Step 6: Wait for decision; processing times typically around 15 calendar days; expedited processing is not generally offered. Passport return may be via pickup or courier service depending on the center.
  • Documents checklist: all items from 'What you need' plus hotel bookings or host invitation, flight reservations, travel insurance certificate, and proof of funds.
  • Fee & payment: Visa application fee 80 EUR; service fee charged by the visa center (e.g., around 27 EUR); payment by bank card or cash at the center as available; check the center's payment options.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: 80 EUR (approx USD 88) per application.
  • VFS Global/visa center service fee: around 27 EUR (approx USD 30) per application; payable at the visa center if applicable.
  • Total cost estimate: about 107 EUR (approx USD 118).
  • Standard processing time: up to 15 calendar days from the date of your appointment; in some cases, processing can take longer (up to 60 days) if additional documents are required.
  • Express/priority option: generally not offered for Slovakia Schengen visa; check with the specific center for any exceptional expedited services and fees.
  • Renewal/return delivery: passport collection by the applicant or courier service if offered by the VAC.

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply well in advance: start at least 6–12 weeks before planned travel; appointment availability can be a bottleneck.
  • Common rejection reasons (China applicants specifically): incomplete application form or missing signature; lack of travel itinerary; insufficient travel health insurance; insufficient proof of funds; inconsistent travel history; missing accommodation or invitation letters; not providing required documents for the purpose of visit.
  • VFS Global vs direct embassy: use the official Slovak embassy or authorized VFS Global visa center; avoid unauthorized agencies; ensure all documents are correctly translated/consularly legalized if required.
  • Travel advisories and bilateral notes: check latest travel advisories from the Slovak authorities and ensure passport validity and visa policy alignment; verify current border entry rules.
  • Extension options inside Slovakia: short-stay Schengen visas cannot generally be extended; for longer stays, you must apply for a long-term national visa (Type D) or residence permit from within Slovakia or before traveling, as extension is rarely granted.
