Chinese citizens can enter Serbia visa-free for stays of up to 30 days under the China-Serbia visa waiver agreement in effect since January 2017.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure from Serbia
  • Confirmed return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address of stay)
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the visit
  • Travel health insurance is recommended though not strictly mandatory for visa-free entry
  • No biometrics or photos are required in advance for visa-free entry

Visa types

  • No visa is required for Chinese passport holders for tourism or business stays of up to 30 days within any 1-year period under the bilateral visa waiver agreement
  • Stays longer than 30 days, or for work/study, require a separate residence permit or visa applied for through the Serbian embassy or consulate

Entry conditions

  • Entry stamp granted on arrival at any Serbian border crossing or airport for up to 30 days per visit
  • The 30-day visa-free allowance applies within a rolling 1-year period under the bilateral agreement, so total visa-free days across multiple visits should not exceed the agreed limit
  • Working is not permitted under the visa-free arrangement
  • Extensions beyond 30 days require applying for a temporary residence permit at the local Ministry of Interior police station before the visa-free period expires

Fees & processing time

  • No visa fee, since entry is visa-free under the bilateral agreement
  • No processing time required for entry itself; the border stamp is issued on the spot
  • Temporary residence permit application fee (if extending): approximately RSD 2,000-5,000 (~USD 18-45)
  • Residence permit processing, if pursued: typically 15-30 working days

Tips for China travelers

  • Keep the entry stamp and boarding pass, as immigration can request proof of entry date if your stay approaches 30 days
  • Common issues arise from overstaying or from exceeding the cumulative 30-day limit within the 1-year window across multiple trips
  • Direct flights between Beijing/Shanghai and Belgrade operate on Air Serbia and Air China, making Serbia a popular visa-free gateway to the Balkans for Chinese travelers
  • No current bilateral travel advisory restricts Chinese nationals
  • For stays beyond 30 days, start the residence permit application early, as processing can take several weeks
