Chinese citizens can obtain a visa on arrival for tourism in Saudi Arabia at select ports by applying online at https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/ and paying the visa-on-arrival fee; stays are up to 30 days per entry and the visa is typically single-entry.

What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry and have at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: Printout or screenshot of the MOFA visa-on-arrival confirmation from visa.mofa.gov.sa and carry a digital copy on your phone.
  • Financial proof: Bank statements or cash/credit card access showing funds for the stay; MOFA does not publish a fixed amount, but having about USD 1,000 (or equivalent in SAR) for a 30-day stay is commonly expected.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Hotel booking confirmation for the full stay and a return/onward ticket.
  • Photo spec: One recent color passport photo (35x45 mm) with a white background; upload or present if requested.
  • Biometrics: Biometrics collection is not required to be completed beforehand; if requested, you may be asked to provide biometrics at the port of entry.
  • Travel health insurance: Travel medical insurance is recommended but not strictly mandatory for visa on arrival.

Visa types

  • Tourist Visa on Arrival (VoA): Official name Tourist visa on arrival; Validity: 1 year from issue; Max stay per visit: up to 30 days; Entry: Single-entry; Approx fee: SAR 300 (about USD 80).

  • Other VOA categories: Some ports may offer limited additional VOA categories; for longer or different purposes (study, work), a traditional embassy/online eVisa route may apply.

Visa on arrival

  • How to apply online: Go to https://visa.mofa.gov.sa/; create or log in to your MOFA account; select Visa on Arrival for Tourism or Business; fill in traveler details, passport data, port of entry, duration of stay, and hotel details; upload required documents (passport scan, photo) and pay the visa-on-arrival fee online (SAR 300; USD approx 80).
  • Approval and printing: You will receive an approval notice on the portal and by email; print the approval and carry it to the port of entry.
  • At the port of entry: Present your passport, the printed visa-on-arrival approval, hotel and return/onward ticket, and any other required documents; provide payment if required by the port (cash or card, depending on port).
  • Processing times and ports: Processing at the counter typically takes 15–60 minutes depending on queue; accepted currencies at the port may include SAR and USD; ports that commonly issue VoA include Jeddah (JED), Riyadh (RUH), Dammam (DMM), and Medina (MED).

  • Visa fee: SAR 300 (approximately USD 80).
  • VFS/BLS service fee: Not applicable for standard visa on arrival issued at MOFA counters; any third-party service fees would be separate and depend on the service used for pre-approval.
  • Total cost estimate: SAR 300 (plus any incidental local charges at the port).
  • Standard processing time: On arrival, visa issuance usually takes 15–60 minutes depending on queue and port.
  • Express/priority option: Not typically offered for VoA at entry; applying for an eVisa in advance can sometimes provide faster pre-travel clearance.
