What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the stay
  • Completed Paraguayan visa application form
  • Two recent passport-size photos, white background
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement from the last 3 months)
  • Round-trip flight itinerary
  • Hotel booking or invitation letter from a host in Paraguay
  • Employment letter or business registration document
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory
  • Biometrics: fingerprints taken at the consulate appointment

Visa types

  • Tourist Visa - single entry, visa valid 90 days from issue, permitted stay up to 90 days, fee approximately $160
  • Business Visa - same core documents plus a company invitation letter, similar fee and validity
  • Transit Visa - for onward travel within 72 hours, reduced fee around $65

Tips for China travelers

  • Start the application at least a month before travel, since the Beijing embassy handles a limited volume and appointment slots can be scarce
  • Keep financial documents recent and consistent - vague or outdated bank statements are the most cited rejection reason for Chinese applicants
  • If traveling as part of a tour group, ask the tour operator about group visa processing, which some agencies coordinate directly with the embassy
  • Note that Paraguay has growing bilateral trade ties with China, but this does not currently translate into visa-free access for ordinary passports
  • Extensions are handled by the Paraguayan Dirección Nacional de Migraciones and must be requested before the 90-day stay expires
