Chinese citizens receive a free 30-day visitor entry permit on arrival in Palau; no advance visa is needed, but the Pristine Paradise Environmental (Green) Fee of $100 must be paid before departure or on arrival.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure date
  • No advance visa application - the entry permit is issued free of charge at Roman Tmetuchl International Airport (Koror)
  • Proof of onward or return travel (confirmed flight ticket)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Pristine Paradise Environmental Fee (Green Fee), $100, paid online via the Palau Pledge system before boarding your flight or at the airport kiosk on arrival
  • Photo: not required for the arrival permit itself, though a passport-style photo may be requested for extensions
  • Biometrics: fingerprint and photo capture at the immigration counter on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory, but strongly recommended given limited medical facilities

Visa types

  • Visitor Entry Permit - issued free on arrival, valid 30 days, single entry, covers tourism and short business visits
  • Extended Visitor Permit - available from the Bureau of Immigration in Koror, extends stay in increments of up to 1 year total, fee $50 per extension
  • Business Entry Permit - same free-on-arrival process as the visitor permit, but requires a letter of invitation from the Palau-based company for immigration review

Visa on arrival

  • Port of entry: Roman Tmetuchl International Airport, Koror (the only international airport)
  • Step 1: Complete the arrival card distributed on the flight or at the immigration desk
  • Step 2: Present passport, return ticket, and accommodation proof to the immigration officer
  • Step 3: Pay the $100 Pristine Paradise Environmental Fee at the Green Fee kiosk before or after immigration (cash in USD or card accepted; some airlines now bundle this into the ticket price)
  • Step 4: Receive the 30-day entry stamp - no separate visa sticker is issued
  • Queue tips: arrival processing for a full flight can take 45-60 minutes because of the mandatory Green Fee payment step; have exact USD cash ready to speed things up

Tips for China travelers

  • Book flights early - the only direct routes from China run seasonally via Guangzhou or Hong Kong, and seats fill up around Chinese New Year and summer holidays
  • Carry small USD bills for the Green Fee; ATMs in Koror do not reliably dispense USD in large quantities
  • The most common reason for delay is arriving without a confirmed onward ticket - Palau checks this closely since there is no long-term visa route
  • Extensions must be requested before the current 30-day permit expires; overstaying incurs a daily fine
  • Chinese group tour operators can arrange Green Fee pre-payment, which avoids the airport queue entirely
