Chinese citizens can obtain a visa on arrival for Laos at Wattay International Airport and some land border crossings; a 30-day, single-entry visa costs USD 30 and is issued on arrival with a passport, one photo, onward ticket, and cash payment.

What you need

Application process

Tips for China travelers

  • When to apply: You cannot apply for a Laos VOA before you travel; this is issued on arrival at the entry point.
  • Common rejection reasons (China applicants specifically): passport validity less than 6 months remaining, insufficient funds to cover stay, missing or unclear onward travel details, photo not meeting specifications, or incomplete/illegible visa form data.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: For VOA, there is no VFS/BLS processing; it is handled directly at the entry port. If you prefer to secure travel documents in advance, consider applying for an eVisa via laoevisa.gov.la or through a Lao embassy/consulate if you are not eligible for VOA.
  • Travel advisories and bilateral notes: Always check the latest travel advisories from the Lao government and your own country’s foreign ministry (China) before travel; visa rules can change with little notice.
  • Extension options inside Laos: Extensions of a 30-day VOA may be possible at Lao Immigration offices (e.g., in Vientiane) for additional days, subject to approval and fees. Do not rely on extension at the border; start the extension process well before expiry and carry all required documents (passport, photos, proof of funds, return/onward ticket).
