What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry into Eritrea, with at least two blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: Complete the online Eritrean visa application form on https://www.eritrea.be/; no separate DS-160 or UK VAF forms.
  • Financial proof: In some cases, you may be asked to show proof of sufficient funds for your stay; provide bank statements or sponsorship letter if requested by the consulate.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Provide confirmed hotel bookings or invitation letter; return/onward flight ticket.
  • Photo spec: One recent passport photo (2x2 inches/51x51 mm) with a plain light background; upload or attach according to portal instructions.
  • Biometrics: Biometric data collection is required as part of the online application and may be collected at the Eritrean embassy or consulate if requested.
  • Travel health insurance: Travel health insurance is recommended for Eritrean travel; it may not be mandatory for all visa types but carry proof of coverage where possible.

Application process

  • How to apply online: Go to https://www.eritrea.be/; create or log in to your account; complete the online visa application form; upload a recent photo; select visa type; pay the visa fee in USD or local currency as supported; you will receive an electronic visa approval by email which you must print and present on arrival.
  • Visa on arrival: Eritrean visa on arrival is subject to port of entry and is not guaranteed; where available, you must present a valid passport, proof of onward travel, hotel or invitation letter, and pay the visa fee in USD at the airport; processing is immediate to a few hours depending on queues; ensure you have the printed e-visa approval (if previously issued) and entry documents.
  • Sticker visa (through embassy/consulate): Steps: prepare documents (passport, photos, invitation letter if required, flight itinerary, hotel bookings); submit to the Eritrean embassy or consulate with the visa fee payment; typical timelines are 3–10 working days; interviews may be requested by the embassy; collect passport with the visa sticker when ready.
