What you need

  • Specific forms: No pre arrival visa application form is required; you will complete a short visa on arrival form at the port if requested by desk staff.
  • Financial proof: There is no mandatory bank statement requirement for visa on arrival; ensure you have funds sufficient for your stay.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Not mandatory in advance, but be prepared to show hotel bookings or address in Egypt and a return/onward ticket if asked.
  • Photo spec: A passport photo is not routinely required for visa on arrival; carrying a spare photo is recommended.
  • Biometrics: No pre submission biometrics; you will be processed at the port and may be photographed.
  • Travel health insurance: Not required by the VOA rules but is strongly recommended.
  • Other: Ensure your passport has at least two blank pages beyond stamps and is in good condition.

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival — Official name: Tourist visa on arrival (Visa on Arrival)
  • Validity: 30 days
  • Max stay: 30 days
  • Entry: Single entry
  • Approx. fee: USD 25

Application process

  • Visa on arrival steps at port of entry:
  • Arrive at CAI, SSH, or HRG and proceed to the visa on arrival desk.
  • Present your passport (valid for at least 6 months) and be prepared to show a return/onward ticket if asked.
  • Complete any short visa on arrival form if requested by desk staff.
  • Pay the visa fee in cash (USD is commonly requested; other currencies may be accepted at some ports).
  • Receive the visa stamp in your passport and proceed to immigration for entry.
  • Processing time at the desk is typically 30–90 minutes depending on queues.
  • Notes:
  • This option covers tourism/short visits; for longer stays or business purposes, use the Egypt e-visa or embassy process in advance.
  • You may also view the official e-visa option at https://visa2egypt.gov.eg/ for eligibility and online application.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: USD 25 for a 30-day single-entry visa on arrival.
  • Other fees: No separate service fee for VOA; only the visa fee.
  • Total cost estimate: USD 25 per person.
  • Standard processing time: On arrival, typical processing 30–90 minutes depending on queues.
  • Express/priority option: Not applicable for VOA at entry points.
  • Currency accepted: Cash payments in USD are commonly requested; some ports may accept EUR or Egyptian pounds (EGP) at the desk.

Tips for China travelers

  • How far in advance to apply: VOA does not require pre-approval; if you prefer guaranteed entry and smoother processing, consider applying for an Egypt e-visa online before travel (approval typically within 5–7 business days) via https://visa2egypt.gov.eg/.
  • Common rejection reasons for China applicants specifically: Passport validity less than 6 months; no onward/return ticket; hotel address not available; insufficient funds or unclear travel plans; inconsistent travel history; arriving at a port that does not offer VOA.
  • VFS/BLS vs direct embassy application: There is no third party VFS/BLS processing for Egypt VOA; you will deal with airport visa desks for VOA; for e-visa or embassy applications, use the official portal or Egypt MFA consulate services.
  • Travel advisories or bilateral notes: Check Egypt's MFA travel advisories and your own government travel advisories for up-to-date entry requirements and safety guidance before travel.
  • Extension options inside Egypt: Visa on arrival can be extended at least once for up to an additional 30 days at Egyptian Passports, Immigration and Nationality Administration offices; apply before the current visa expires and expect a local fee.
