What you need

  • Passport validity: passport must be valid for at least 6 months from date of entry; at least 2 blank visa pages.
  • Specific forms: use the online e-Visa application form on https://www.ambardc.org/; there is no separate DS-160 or UK VAF1A for DR Congo.
  • Financial proof: not required as a fixed amount on the portal, but you should have evidence of sufficient funds for your stay and be able to show recent bank statements if requested by border authorities.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter from host) and confirmation of a return/onward flight is recommended.
  • Photo spec: recent passport-style photo meeting standard specs; color, white background; size typically 35x45 mm (3.5x4.5 cm); head centered; photo not older than 6 months.
  • Biometrics: for the online e-Visa, a digital photo is uploaded; fingerprint collection may occur at entry if requested by border authorities.
  • Travel health insurance: recommended but not mandatory for e-Visa issuance.

  • Tourist e-Visa: Official name: e-Visa Touristique; Validity: up to 90 days from issue; Max stay per visit: 30 days; Entry: Single; Approx. fee: USD 60–70.
  • Business e-Visa: Official name: e-Visa d'Affaires; Validity: up to 90 days from issue; Max stay per visit: 30 days; Entry: Single; Approx. fee: USD 100–120.
  • Student e-Visa: Official name: e-Visa Étudiant; Validity: up to 1 year from issue (term-based); Max stay per visit: up to 12 months as issued and compatible with academic term; Entry: Single or Multiple depending on issuance; Approx. fee: USD 80–110.
  • Work e-Visa: Official name: e-Visa Travail; Validity: up to 1 year from issue; Max stay per entry: 90 days; Entry: Multiple or Single as issued; Approx. fee: USD 120–150.
  • Transit e-Visa: Official name: e-Visa Transit; Validity: up to 7 days; Max stay: 7 days; Entry: Single; Approx. fee: USD 50.

Application process

  • How to apply online: Go to https://www.ambardc.org/ and choose the e-Visa option; Create an account and complete the online application form with your personal data and travel details; Upload required documents (passport copy, recent passport-style photo meeting the specs, any invitation letter or business documents as applicable); Pay the visa fee online by credit or debit card; After submission you will receive an electronic acknowledgment; Processing time is typically 3–5 business days; You will receive the e-Visa authorization by email; Print the authorization and present it upon entry to DR Congo.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: current amounts are published on the official portal and vary by visa type; approximate USD ranges: Tourist 60–70, Business 100–120, Student 80–110, Work 120–150, Transit 50. Local currency (CDF) amounts, if shown, are published on the portal and may fluctuate with exchange rates; USD is commonly accepted for online payment. There is no separate VFS/BLS service fee for the online e-Visa via ambardc.org. Total cost estimates depend on visa type and any optional services chosen. Standard processing time is 3–5 working days; express/priority processing, if offered, carries an additional fee.

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply well in advance: aim to apply at least 1–2 weeks before departure; allow extra time during peak travel periods.
