Colombia Visa for China Citizens 2026

Chinese citizens must obtain an electronic visa (e-visa) to Colombia; apply online via the official Cancilleria portal at https://www.cancilleria.gov.co/; processing typically 3–5 working days, with fees varying by category (tourist, business, student, work).

What you need

  • Passport validity: Passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry; it should have at least 1 blank page for entry records.
  • Specific forms: There is no DS-160; you complete the online e-visa application on the Cancilleria portal and upload a recent digital photo plus supporting documents.
  • Financial proof: Provide bank statements or other proof showing funds to cover your stay; there is no fixed minimum, but plan for about USD 50–60 per day.
  • Accommodation and return ticket: Show proof of accommodation in Colombia (hotel booking or invitation letter from a Colombian host) and a return or onward flight booking.
  • Photo spec: Upload a passport-style photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm, 45 x 35 mm) with a plain white background; JPEG format; ensure the photo is recent and matches passport data.
  • Biometrics: Biometric data collection is not typically required during online e-visa submission; you may be asked to visit a consulate or border for biometrics if required.
  • Travel health insurance: Travel medical insurance is recommended; it should cover medical expenses and repatriation with a minimum suggested coverage of USD 30,000.

Visa types

  • Tourist visa (VISA TURISMO): Official name Visa de turismo; validity up to 90 days per entry, maximum 180 days per year; multiple entries allowed; approximate fee USD 60–70.
  • Business visa (VISA NEGOCIOS): Official name Visa de negocios; validity up to 1 year; 90 days per entry; multiple entries possible; approximate fee USD 90–120.
  • Student visa (VISA ESTUDIANTE): Official name Visa de estudiante; validity tied to the duration of studies; typically multiple entries; approximate fee USD 60–100.
  • Work visa (VISA TRABAJO): Official name Visa de trabajo; validity up to 2 years or longer with renewal; multiple entries; approximate fee USD 110–150.
  • Transit visa (VISA TRASLADO): Official name Visa de trasbordo/tránsito; short layovers through Colombia; validity up to 72 hours; single entry; approximate fee USD 20–25.

How to apply online

  • How to apply online: 1) Go to the official Cancilleria visa portal on https://www.cancilleria.gov.co/ and locate the e-visa section. 2) Create an account or log in with your credentials. 3) Complete the online visa application form with personal, travel and employment details. 4) Upload required documents: scanned passport bio-page, digital photo, proof of funds, accommodation, travel itinerary, and any category-specific documents (eg. admission letter for student, job offer for work). 5) Pay the visa fee online with a credit/debit card. 6) Submit the application and note the reference number. 7) Processing typically takes 3–5 working days; you will be notified by email or via the portal. 8) Once approved, print the e-visa approval and carry it with your passport on arrival. If requested, you may be asked to provide biometrics at a Colombian consulate or border.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee (local currency COP) and USD equivalents vary by category; check the official portal for the exact amount at the time of application. Approximate USD equivalents: Tourist USD 60–70; Business USD 90–120; Student USD 60–100; Work USD 110–150; Transit around USD 20–25.
  • No VFS/BLS service fee applies for online e-visa; fees are paid directly on the official portal.
  • Total cost estimate: Visa fee only (plus any optional consular services if you choose to use a courier or in-person visit for supporting documents).
  • Standard processing time: 3–5 working days; express/priority options are not broadly advertised for e-visa; check the portal for any expedited options.
  • Note: The government may update fees and processing times without notice.

Tips for China travelers

  • Apply well in advance: start the e-visa application at least 2–4 weeks before your intended travel date to allow for processing and any document requests.
  • Common rejection reasons for Chinese applicants: missing or mismatched passport data, photographs, insufficient funds evidence, failure to provide required documents specific to the visa category, or inconsistencies between travel plans and the application. Ensure all documents are clear and match what you submit.
  • E-visa vs VFS: This is an online e-visa process; there is no VFS/BLS submission for the e-visa. Use the official Cancilleria portal rather than third-party services.
  • Travel advisories: Check the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and your country’s government travel advisories for any entry restrictions or public health requirements. Ensure you meet any current vaccination or health entry requirements.
  • Extensions inside Colombia: If you are granted a tourist stay, you may request a stay extension up to 90 days (to a maximum of 180 days per calendar year) by applying with Migración Colombia before your current stay expires; approval is not guaranteed. For other visa categories, extensions follow standard consular/immigration rules.
