Uzbekistan Visa for South Africa Citizens 2026

Visa Required

South African citizens are not on Uzbekistan's visa-free or e-visa eligibility list, so they must apply for an ordinary visa in advance, typically through the nearest Uzbek diplomatic mission, as there is no Uzbek embassy in South Africa.

Guide last updated October 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with 2 blank pages
  • Completed visa application form (available from the Uzbek embassy handling South African applications)
  • Passport-style photo (35x45mm, white background)
  • Letter of invitation from a host, tour operator, or hotel confirmation covering the full stay
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the trip
  • Proof of onward/return travel
  • Biometrics: not required in advance; standard passport control on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: recommended

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single or double entry, up to 30 days, issued against a hotel booking or tour operator invitation
  • Business visa: single, double or multiple entry up to 1 year, requires an invitation letter from an Uzbek company registered with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Transit visa: up to 5 days for travelers continuing to a third country
  • Note: Uzbekistan operates an e-visa system (e-visa.gov.uz) for around 70 eligible nationalities, but South Africa is not currently on that list, so the ordinary consular route applies

How to apply

  • Identify the nearest Uzbek embassy or consulate accredited for South Africa (commonly handled via missions in other African or European capitals, as there is no resident mission in Pretoria)
  • Submit the application form, photo, passport, invitation letter and proof of funds by post, courier, or in person
  • Pay the consular fee (varies by visa category and processing speed, typically USD 50-120)
  • Standard processing: 5-10 working days from receipt of a complete application
  • Expedited processing (2-3 working days) is available at some missions for a higher fee

Fees & processing time

  • Single-entry tourist visa: approximately USD 50-60
  • Double-entry visa: approximately USD 70-80
  • Business visa (multiple entry): approximately USD 100-120
  • No VFS/BLS centre handles Uzbekistan visas for South Africa - applications go directly to the embassy
  • Total cost estimate: USD 60-130 including courier/postage costs if applying by mail
  • Standard processing: 5-10 working days
  • Express option: 2-3 working days for an additional fee at missions that offer it

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Start the process early (at least 3-4 weeks before travel) given the need to route the application through a foreign mission
  • Common rejection reasons: missing or vague invitation letter, insufficient proof of funds, inconsistent travel dates between invitation and itinerary
  • Confirm with the handling embassy exactly which documents they require, as requirements can vary slightly by mission
  • Registration with local authorities may be required within 3 days of arrival for stays - your hotel usually handles this automatically
  • Visa extensions inside Uzbekistan are handled by the Agency for International Cooperation or local OVIR office, and are not guaranteed
