  • Completed online e-visa application with a digital passport photo (white background, 35x45mm)
  • Proof of accommodation in Ukraine (hotel booking or invitation)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement, around USD 50-100 per day of stay is commonly requested)
  • Return or onward travel ticket
  • Travel/medical insurance covering the full stay - compulsory and checked at the border
  • Biometrics: not required for the e-visa; standard passport control on arrival
  • Check current DIRCO and Ukrainian government travel advisories before applying given the security situation

Visa types

  • Short-stay e-Visa (Type C): single or double entry, up to 90 days within a 180-day period, for tourism, business or private visits
  • Long-stay visa (Type D): for work, study or residence, requires a separate paper application at a Ukrainian diplomatic mission
  • Transit e-Visa: for travelers passing through to a third country, valid up to 5 days

How to apply online

  • Apply at the official State Migration Service portal (dmsu.gov.ua) or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs e-visa portal
  • Upload passport scan, photo, accommodation proof, insurance and financial proof
  • Pay the consular fee (approximately USD 65 single entry, USD 85 double entry) online by card
  • Standard processing time: up to 10 working days; expedited processing (5 working days) available for a higher fee
  • Approval is sent by email as a PDF to print and present with your passport on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • Single-entry e-Visa: approximately USD 65
  • Double-entry e-Visa: approximately USD 85
  • No separate VFS/BLS fee - handled directly by the State Migration Service
  • Total cost estimate: USD 65-90 depending on entry type
  • Standard processing: up to 10 working days
  • Expedited service: around 5 working days for roughly USD 30-50 extra

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Apply well in advance - South Africa has no Ukrainian embassy, so all communication is online or through an honorary consul
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient proof of funds, inadequate travel insurance, unclear accommodation details
  • Check DIRCO's travel advisory before booking - parts of the country remain under active travel restrictions
  • Keep printed and digital copies of your e-visa, insurance and accommodation proof for border checks
  • Extensions are handled by State Migration Service territorial offices within Ukraine, not at the border
