  • Provide fingerprints and a photo for the biometric visa

  • Standard processing: up to 15 calendar days
  • Premium/priority processing may be offered by the application centre for an extra fee

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Apply at least a month ahead of travel, especially during the peak European summer season when processing can slow down
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient funds, unclear or inconsistent travel plans, weak ties shown to return to South Africa
  • If Spain isn't your main Schengen destination, apply at the consulate of whichever country you'll spend the most time in or first enter
  • Extensions inside the Schengen area are rarely granted except for genuine emergencies
  • Make sure your insurance certificate dates match your declared travel dates exactly
