Philippines Visa for South Africa Citizens 2026

Visa Free

South African citizens receive a visa-free stay of up to 30 days in the Philippines for tourism, which can be extended locally at the Bureau of Immigration.

Guide last updated October 22, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay
  • No visa or form required before travel — only the standard arrival card
  • Confirmed onward or return ticket (immigration can deny boarding or entry without one)
  • Proof of sufficient funds, roughly the equivalent of US$50 per day is a reasonable guide
  • Proof of accommodation for your stay
  • A passport-style photo is not required for entry, though one is needed for any later extension
  • No biometrics on arrival, though some e-gates capture a photo
  • Travel insurance is recommended but not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist entry: 30 days, granted automatically at the port of entry
  • 9(a) Temporary Visitor Visa: only needed if applying from abroad for an initial stay longer than 30 days; not required for the standard visa-free entry
  • Business visa-exempt entry: short business trips are covered under the same 30-day stamp, provided no local paid work is undertaken

Entry conditions

  • Initial 30-day stay granted on arrival, no paperwork required in advance
  • Extendable at a Bureau of Immigration (BI) office for up to 59 days combined, then in further monthly increments up to a maximum of 6 months without leaving the country
  • No paid employment permitted on a visa-free stay
  • Stays beyond 59 days require registration for an ACR I-Card at the BI

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the initial 30-day visa-free entry
  • First extension (to 59 days total) costs approximately PHP 3,030 including the express lane fee, processed same day at a BI office
  • Further monthly extensions cost roughly PHP 2,000-3,000 each, also same-day
  • ACR I-Card registration (required beyond 59 days) costs around PHP 2,100

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Apply for your extension a few days before the 30-day mark — queues at BI offices in Manila and Cebu can be long, and online appointment booking is recommended
  • Overstaying attracts a fine of roughly PHP 500 per month plus a mandatory BI clearance certificate before you can leave the country
  • Keep your return ticket and proof of funds accessible, as Philippine immigration does sometimes query visa-free arrivals without them
  • Consider the BI's online appointment system to avoid walk-in queues when extending
