Guide last updated October 22, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Digital passport photo and scanned passport bio page uploaded during the online application
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement from the last 3 months)
  • Travel medical insurance covering the stay in Kuwait
  • No in-person biometrics required for the e-visa; fingerprint capture occurs at immigration on arrival

Visa types

  • Tourist e-visa: single entry, fee approximately KWD 3 (around USD 10), valid for 3 months from issue for use, allows a stay of up to 30 days extendable to 90 days
  • Business e-visa: single entry, similar fee, requires a sponsoring company reference inside Kuwait
  • Standard sticker visa: still issued through the Kuwaiti Embassy in Pretoria for categories not covered online, such as work or residence visas

How to apply

  • Go to the official Kuwait e-visa portal at evisa.moi.gov.kw
  • Complete the online application with passport, travel, and purpose-of-visit details
  • Upload your passport scan and digital photo
  • Pay the e-visa fee online (approximately KWD 3 for a tourist single entry)
  • Processing is typically completed within a few hours to 4 working days
  • Print the approval and present it with your passport at immigration on arrival at Kuwait International Airport
  • For categories not covered by the e-visa (work, residence), apply through the Kuwaiti Embassy in Pretoria with the full document set and a sponsor inside Kuwait

Fees & processing time

  • E-visa fee: approximately KWD 3 (around USD 10) for tourist single entry
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee, as the e-visa is processed directly by Kuwait's Ministry of Interior
  • Total cost estimate: USD 10-15 including minor card processing charges
  • Standard processing time: a few hours up to 4 working days
  • No formal paid express tier; most applications are already processed quickly

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Apply for the e-visa at least a week before departure, even though turnaround is often fast, to allow for any additional verification
  • Common delay reasons: unclear passport scans, mismatched traveler details, and incomplete accommodation information
  • Extensions from 30 to 90 days can be processed inside Kuwait at the Ministry of Interior's residency affairs department before the initial period expires
  • The Kuwaiti Embassy in Pretoria remains the route for longer-term visa categories such as work or family visas, which are not available through the online tourist e-visa
  • Keep both a digital and printed copy of your e-visa approval, as airline check-in staff may request to see it before boarding
