What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
  • Completed online e-visa application on the official portal
  • Scanned passport bio page
  • Digital passport photo (recent, white background)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Travel health insurance covering the stay in Kazakhstan, often required for the application
  • No biometrics required for the e-visa; fingerprints may be taken on arrival at some airports

Visa types

  • Tourist e-visa: single entry, stay up to 30 days, must be used within 90 days of issue
  • Business e-visa: single or double entry, requires an invitation letter from a Kazakh company or organization
  • Transit e-visa: for short layovers, valid up to 5 days

How to apply online

  • Register and complete the application at the official e-visa portal (vmp.gov.kz)
  • Upload your passport scan, photo, accommodation proof, and insurance certificate
  • Pay the fee online by card
  • Processing typically takes 3–5 working days; apply at least a week before departure
  • Approval is emailed as a PDF — print it and carry it with your passport, as border officers check it alongside your passport

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist e-visa: approx USD 40–60 depending on entry type
  • Business e-visa: approx USD 80–100
  • No separate VFS/BLS fee — direct government portal application
  • Standard processing: 3–5 working days
  • No official expedited option; apply early to avoid delays

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Apply at least 1–2 weeks ahead since document verification can take longer than the stated processing time
  • Common rejection reasons: blurry document scans, mismatched name spelling, missing travel insurance certificate
  • Keep a printed copy of your e-visa approval plus your insurance certificate for border checks
  • Register your address with local authorities within 5 days of arrival if staying longer than a few days (often handled by your hotel)
  • Extensions are difficult to obtain — plan your full trip within the visa's validity
