Dominican Republic Visa for South Africa Citizens 2026

Visa Free

South African citizens can enter the Dominican Republic visa-free for stays of up to 30 days via the free electronic tourist card; only a valid passport and proof of onward travel are required.

Guide last updated October 21, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry
  • Proof of onward or return flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Completion of the Dominican Republic's free online E-Ticket / tourist card registration before arrival, available at migracion.gob.do
  • Proof of sufficient funds may occasionally be requested
  • No biometrics required for entry beyond a standard photo taken at immigration
  • Travel health insurance recommended though not mandatory for most travelers

Visa types

  • No tourist visa required for stays up to 30 days - entry is via the free Tourist Card bundled into the E-Ticket system, not a separate visa category
  • Travelers needing longer stays (up to 60 days with extension) or planning to work, study, or reside must apply for the relevant category through Dominican immigration (Direccion General de Migracion) in advance

Entry conditions

  • South Africans may stay up to 30 days per visit on the free tourist entry
  • A one-time extension of up to 30 additional days (60 days total) can be requested at a migration office or at the airport before departure for a fee
  • Employment or paid local work is prohibited on this entry type
  • Complete the E-Ticket form online within 7 days before arrival, and again before departure, since Dominican authorities use this digital system instead of paper arrival/departure cards

Fees & processing time

  • No visa or tourist card fee applies, since the Dominican Republic made tourist cards free for all visitors
  • The E-Ticket online registration is also free and takes only a few minutes
  • An extension beyond 30 days costs roughly $30-35 depending on the number of extra days, payable at a migration office or the airport on departure
  • Processing at the border is immediate once the E-Ticket QR code is presented

Tips for South Africa travelers

  • Complete the E-Ticket registration online before departure to speed up arrival and departure processing - save the QR code on your phone
  • Carry proof of return/onward travel and accommodation, since immigration can still request them despite the visa-free entry
  • Overstaying beyond 30 days without an extension incurs a per-day fine at the airport on departure
  • Check DIRCO advisories for hurricane season timing (June-November)
  • Verify current E-Ticket requirements close to your travel date, as Dominican entry procedures have been updated several times in recent years
