Belarus Visa for South Africa Citizens 2026

Visa Required

South African citizens need a visa to enter Belarus, as the country's unilateral visa-free regime does not extend to South Africa; applications are made through the Belarusian Embassy, with a standard fee of around USD 60-90 and processing of about 5-10 working days.

Guide last updated October 21, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the visa expiry date, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed visa application form
  • 1-2 recent passport photos, 35x45mm
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or a notarised invitation for private visits)
  • Travel health insurance covering Belarus for the full duration of the stay
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Biometrics may be requested depending on current embassy procedure

Visa types

  • Tourist visa - single or double entry, typically valid for stays of up to 30 days
  • Business visa - requires an invitation letter from a Belarusian company or organisation
  • Private visa - requires a notarised invitation from a host resident in Belarus
  • Transit visa - for travellers passing through Belarus en route to another country

How to apply

  • Contact the Belarusian Embassy (or its nearest accredited mission, since there is no dedicated VFS centre for Belarus in South Africa) to confirm current submission requirements
  • Complete the application form and compile all required documents, including an invitation where applicable
  • Submit the application in person, by post, or via courier as the embassy instructs
  • Pay the visa fee as directed
  • Collect the passport with the visa sticker once a decision has been made

Fees & processing time

  • Standard visa fee: approximately USD 60-90, depending on visa category and number of entries
  • No separate VFS service fee, since applications are handled directly by the embassy
  • Standard processing time: approximately 5-10 working days
  • An expedited service may be available for a higher fee, subject to the embassy's discretion

Tips for South African travelers

  • Belarus's visa-free regime for short stays applies mainly to EU and a limited list of other countries - South African citizens are not currently included, so always apply for a visa in advance
  • Secure your invitation letter (business or private) early, as this is often the longest step in the process
  • There are no direct flights from South Africa to Minsk - routes typically connect via Istanbul, Doha, Dubai, or European hubs
  • Make sure your travel insurance policy explicitly states coverage in Belarus, as generic "worldwide" policies are sometimes not accepted
