Armenia Visa for South Africa Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

South African citizens can obtain a visa on arrival at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport, or apply for an e-visa in advance via evisa.mfa.am; fees range from about USD 8 for a 21-day visa to USD 40 for a 120-day visa, with same-day issuance.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from Armenia
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Sufficient funds for your stay, occasionally checked
  • One passport photo if applying on arrival (not required for the e-visa)
  • No biometrics required; the on-arrival process is a simple stamp and sticker

Visa types

  • Tourist/Ordinary visa - 21-day validity, single entry
  • Tourist/Ordinary visa - 120-day validity, multiple entry
  • Both categories are available either on arrival at Zvartnots International Airport or in advance through the e-visa portal evisa.mfa.am

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Zvartnots International Airport (Yerevan) and at land border crossings with Georgia
  • Steps: proceed to the visa counter before passport control, complete a short form, pay the fee in AMD or USD cash, receive the visa sticker, then proceed to passport control
  • Processing is immediate - usually under 10 minutes if the queue is short
  • The e-visa (evisa.mfa.am) can be applied for online in advance and is approved within 1-3 working days, which avoids queuing on arrival

Fees & processing time

  • 21-day visa: approximately USD 8 (around AMD 3,000)
  • 120-day visa: approximately USD 40 (around AMD 15,000)
  • E-visa processing: typically 1-3 working days online
  • On-arrival processing: immediate, paid in cash (AMD or USD accepted at the airport counter)

Tips for South African travelers

  • There are no direct flights from South Africa to Armenia; most routes connect via Doha, Dubai, Istanbul or Moscow
  • Carrying small USD or AMD cash denominations speeds up the on-arrival payment, as card payment is not always reliable at the counter
  • Apply for the e-visa in advance if you want to avoid airport queues, especially on evening flights when several flights land close together
  • Keep your visa sticker and entry stamp intact - Armenian immigration checks these carefully if you plan to cross into Georgia overland and return
