Guide last updated September 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the entire intended duration of stay in Mauritius
  • No visa application form required for stays up to 90 days
  • Confirmed return or onward travel ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address of stay)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to support your stay
  • Completed Mauritius Traveller Health and Customs Declaration form online before arrival, if still required at the time of travel
  • Biometrics: photo taken at the immigration counter on arrival at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport
  • Travel health insurance: recommended, not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry: up to 90 days, granted automatically on arrival, covers tourism, business meetings, and family visits (no local employment)
  • Premium Visa: an optional long-stay permit (up to 1 year, renewable) for remote workers or long-term visitors, applied for online in advance through the Economic Development Board of Mauritius, free of charge but requires proof of income and health insurance
  • Work permits and Occupation Permits are separate and require employer or investment sponsorship

Entry conditions

  • Kenyan citizens are granted a visa-free stay of up to 90 days on arrival for tourism, business, or family visits
  • No paid local employment is allowed under the visa-free entry
  • Immigration officers stamp the passport directly at the airport; no pre-arrival visa application is needed for standard tourism
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are possible in limited cases by applying to the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis before the initial period expires
  • Overstaying without an approved extension can result in fines and future entry restrictions

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the standard 90-day visa-free entry stamp
  • Premium Visa (optional long-stay option): free to apply for online, processed within a few days if all documents are in order
  • No VFS/BLS fees apply since no advance visa is required for short visits
  • Any extension request at the Passport and Immigration Office typically has a modest administrative fee and is processed within a few days

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Carry proof of your return ticket and accommodation, as immigration officers occasionally request these on arrival
  • Complete any pre-arrival online travel declaration if still in effect at the time of your trip, to speed up airport processing
  • If planning to work remotely during a longer stay, consider applying for the free Premium Visa in advance rather than relying on the standard 90-day entry
  • Extensions should be requested well before your 90-day period lapses to avoid overstay penalties
  • Mauritius has strong direct flight links with Kenya via Nairobi, making short notice trips relatively easy to arrange
