Egypt Visa for Kenya Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Kenyan citizens need a visa for Egypt, applied for through the Egyptian Embassy in Nairobi or Egypt's e-visa portal where eligible — fee around USD 25-40, processing 5-10 business days.

Guide last updated September 24, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Completed visa application form
  • Two recent passport-size photos, white background
  • Confirmed round-trip flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months and an employment/business letter showing sufficient funds and ties to Kenya
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate
  • Travel health insurance is recommended though not always mandatory

Visa types

  • Tourist Visa, single entry — valid for a stay of up to 30 days, for holiday travel
  • Tourist Visa, multiple entry — valid up to 90 days validity with multiple entries of up to 30 days each, for travelers with a genuine need for repeat visits
  • Business Visa — requires a company invitation letter, similar validity to the tourist visa
  • E-visa — offered to a growing list of nationalities via visa2egypt.gov.eg; check current eligibility for Kenyan passport holders before applying, as coverage is periodically expanded

How to apply

  • Check visa2egypt.gov.eg first to see whether Kenyan citizens currently qualify for the online e-visa; if eligible, this is the faster route (upload passport scan and photo, pay online, receive approval by email)
  • If e-visa is not available for Kenya at the time of travel, apply in person at the Egyptian Embassy in Nairobi with the full document checklist
  • Submit the application form and documents at the embassy's consular section during visiting hours; some straightforward cases are processed without an interview
  • Pay the visa fee at the embassy in cash (USD or KES equivalent)
  • Collect your passport with the visa sticker once processing is complete, or arrange courier return if offered

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: approximately USD 25 for a single-entry tourist visa, higher (around USD 60-70) for multiple-entry
  • No separate service fee when applying directly at the embassy
  • Standard processing time: 5-10 business days for embassy applications
  • E-visa processing, where available, is typically faster — around 5-7 business days
  • No official express service at the Nairobi embassy; plan around the standard timeline

Tips for Kenya travelers

  • Apply at least 3 weeks ahead of travel to allow for the 5-10 business day processing plus embassy queue time
  • Common rejection reasons: incomplete financial documentation, unclear travel purpose, and passport validity shorter than 6 months
  • Always verify Egypt's e-visa eligibility list for Kenya before your trip, since it changes — using the e-visa when available saves an embassy visit
  • Yellow fever certification is checked closely on arrival from Kenya; travel without it can result in on-the-spot vaccination or denied entry
  • Extensions inside Egypt can be arranged at the Mogamma government complex in Cairo or regional passport offices before your visa expires
