What you need

  • Proof of sufficient funds for your stay, rarely checked for short tourist visits

  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate required if arriving from, or transiting through, a country with yellow fever risk
  • No biometrics beyond a photo and fingerprint scan taken at the immigration counter

  • KAZA UniVisa: covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia, multiple entries within 30 days including day trips to Botswana's Chobe National Park, fee USD 50
  • Business visa on arrival: single entry, fee USD 30-55 depending on nationality category, requires a letter from the host company

  • Available at Harare, Victoria Falls, and Bulawayo international airports, and at major land borders such as Victoria Falls Bridge, Beitbridge, and Chirundu
  • Steps: complete the arrival visa form at the immigration counter, present your passport and fee, have your photo and fingerprints taken, receive the visa sticker or stamp
  • Fees are payable in cash USD (exact change recommended) or, at major airports, by card; South African rand is sometimes accepted at land borders
  • Queues at Victoria Falls and Harare airports can take 20-40 minutes during peak season (June-September); land borders can be slower
  • Ask specifically for the KAZA UniVisa if you plan to cross into Zambia or visit Chobe, as it is not issued automatically

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Bring exact USD cash in small denominations, as change is not always available at busier crossings
  • Decide before arrival whether you need the double-entry or KAZA UniVisa, since switching after receiving a single-entry visa usually means paying again
  • Victoria Falls airport tends to be faster than Harare for visa processing - factor this in if you have a tight connection
  • Zimbabwe has reciprocal visa fee arrangements with some countries, but Germans pay the standard rate - check the current fee schedule before travel as rates are revised periodically
  • Visa extensions beyond 90 days are handled by the Department of Immigration Control in Harare and require a separate in-country application
