Zambia Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

Visa Free

German passport holders can enter Zambia visa-free for tourism and stay up to 90 days, though business travelers or those needing extensions should check the eVisa portal at evisa.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm.

Guide last updated October 14, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, with at least 1 blank page
  • No visa or eVisa required for tourist stays up to 90 days
  • Return or onward ticket may be requested by immigration officers
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host's address) recommended to carry
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the length of stay, though rarely checked in practice
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate required if arriving from, or having transited through, a country with risk of yellow fever transmission
  • No biometrics collected on visa-free entry; photos are taken at the immigration desk on arrival
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory but strongly recommended

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist entry: up to 90 days per calendar year, single or multiple entries, no fee
  • Business visa (if visa-free entry does not cover your purpose): apply via the eVisa portal, single entry, valid 90 days, fee around USD 50
  • KAZA UniVisa: not applicable for German citizens since tourist entry is already visa-free, but available for combined Zambia-Zimbabwe travel at USD 50 if issued at the border

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days visa-free per calendar year for tourism, cumulative across multiple trips
  • Work of any kind is not permitted on visa-free entry - a work permit sponsored by a Zambian employer is required separately
  • On arrival, show your passport, return ticket, and proof of accommodation; immigration may ask about the purpose and duration of your stay
  • Extensions beyond 90 days, or conversion to a different permit, are handled by the Department of Immigration in Lusaka and require a separate application

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee
  • eVisa (if needed for business purposes): approx. USD 50, processed within 3-5 working days
  • No VFS/BLS service fee - the eVisa portal is operated directly by Zambia's Department of Immigration
  • Total cost estimate for visa-free tourist entry: USD 0
  • Express eVisa processing: approx. USD 80-100 with 24-48 hour turnaround, where offered

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Carry proof of yellow fever vaccination if you've recently visited a country where it's endemic - this is checked more strictly than the visa requirement itself
  • Keep a printed or digital copy of your return flight and accommodation details, as immigration officers can ask for them even on visa-free entry
  • If you plan to also visit Zimbabwe, consider the KAZA UniVisa at the border rather than two separate entries
  • Business travelers should apply for the eVisa before departure rather than assuming visa-free entry covers commercial activity
  • The 90-day visa-free allowance resets each calendar year, not per rolling 90-day period - plan longer stays accordingly
