Yemen Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

German citizens need a sticker visa for Yemen, arranged in advance through the Yemeni embassy in Berlin or a local sponsor; fees run around USD 50-100 and processing can take 2-4 weeks depending on security clearance.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least 2 blank visa pages
  • Completed Yemeni visa application form (available from the embassy)
  • 2 recent passport-style photos, 4x6 cm, white background
  • A letter of invitation or sponsorship from a Yemeni contact, company, or NGO (required for almost all visa categories given the current security situation)
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or sponsor's address)
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement, last 3 months)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Travel health insurance covering the Middle East is strongly recommended; not formally checked at the embassy but often required by sponsors/airlines
  • Biometrics are not collected at application; fingerprints may be taken on arrival at Sana'a or Aden airport

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single entry, valid 30 days from issue, max stay 30 days, fee around USD 50-60 - in practice rarely issued due to the ongoing conflict and travel advisories
  • Business visa: single or multiple entry, valid up to 90 days, max stay 30 days per entry, fee around USD 80-100, requires an invitation letter from a registered Yemeni company
  • Transit visa: valid 72 hours, fee around USD 30, only issued with onward ticket
  • Journalist/NGO visa: case-by-case, requires accreditation letter, processed directly through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

How to apply

  • Yemen has no e-visa system for German citizens; apply in person or by post at the Embassy of Yemen in Berlin
  • Documents checklist: application form, photos, passport, invitation letter, flight itinerary, proof of funds
  • Fee is paid in cash (EUR equivalent) or bank transfer at the embassy; no card payments
  • Standard processing: 10-15 working days once the embassy confirms the sponsor/invitation
  • Express processing is generally not available given the additional security vetting
  • No interview is normally required for business applicants with a valid sponsor; tourist applicants may be asked to provide extra documentation

  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee - applications go directly through the embassy

  • Express processing: not generally offered; allow extra time if security clearance from Sana'a is required

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks before travel to allow time for the embassy to obtain clearance from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sana'a
  • The German Federal Foreign Office advises against all travel to Yemen; check the current travel advisory before applying, as this affects both visa issuance and insurance validity
  • Most rejections happen when the invitation/sponsorship letter is missing or not from a recognized Yemeni entity - secure this first
  • There is no VFS or BLS center for Yemen in Germany; all applications go directly to the embassy in Berlin
  • Extensions inside Yemen are handled by the Immigration Authority in Sana'a or Aden, but are difficult to arrange given the current situation - plan your stay to match your visa validity
