What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival

  • Return or onward ticket, routinely checked by airlines before boarding
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) is sometimes requested, especially by airlines at check-in
  • No photo requirement, as no visa is issued
  • Biometrics (facial scan, and fingerprints for some travelers) are captured at UAE airports as part of standard immigration procedure
  • Travel health insurance is not legally mandatory for tourists but is commonly recommended, since private healthcare in the UAE is expensive and German public insurance generally does not cover it

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist/business entry: free, granted on arrival, valid for stays up to 90 days, can generally be used multiple times per year subject to immigration discretion
  • Golden Visa: a long-term residence visa (5–10 years) for investors, entrepreneurs, and certain skilled professionals, applied for separately through UAE authorities or free zones
  • Employment visa: requires a UAE employer to sponsor the application through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation before travel, followed by an Emirates ID and residence visa process after arrival

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days of stay permitted visa-free, generally renewable at immigration discretion for an additional period
  • No employment is permitted on the visa-free entry; a sponsored work visa and Emirates ID are required for any job
  • Present your passport at immigration; you may be asked for a hotel booking or UAE host's address

  • No VFS/BLS service applies to the standard visa-free entry

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports have efficient e-Gates for EU passport holders registered in certain frequent-traveler programs, which can speed up immigration
  • Carry proof of onward travel if asked at check-in in Germany, since some airlines are strict about this for UAE-bound flights
  • Alcohol, public conduct, and dress-code rules are more conservative than in Germany — review UAE local laws beforehand to avoid legal issues
  • If relocating for work, start the employer-sponsored visa process before traveling, since switching from tourist to employment status inside the UAE is more complex than applying correctly from the start
