What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No visa application required for stays up to 60 days
  • Proof of onward or return ticket within 60 days
  • Proof of funds equivalent to THB 20,000 per person (or THB 40,000 per family) may be checked at immigration, though enforcement is inconsistent
  • No photo requirement since no visa application is filed
  • Travel health insurance is not mandatory for visa-exempt tourist entry but is recommended

  • Visa Exemption - single entry, up to 60 days, no fee, available to German passport holders arriving for tourism
  • Tourist e-Visa - for stays beyond visa-exempt limits or multiple entries, valid up to 60 days per entry, fee approximately THB 1,000 (around EUR 27), applied via www.evisa.go.th
  • Non-Immigrant Visa (Business, Education, Retirement, etc.) - for longer or purpose-specific stays, fee and requirements vary by category, applied through the Thai embassy in Berlin

Entry conditions

  • Up to 60 days per visit for tourism, with no work permitted
  • Show passport and onward ticket at immigration; proof of accommodation and sufficient funds may be requested
  • One extension of up to 30 days is available at any Immigration Bureau office in Thailand for a fee of THB 1,900
  • Overstaying incurs a fine of THB 500 per day, up to a maximum of THB 20,000

  • Extensions inside Thailand are processed same-day at Immigration Bureau offices, most easily done at Chaeng Wattana in Bangkok or provincial offices
  • Register your stay if required under the TM.30 rule when changing accommodation, as hotels typically handle this automatically
