  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) collected on arrival at the port of entry
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate required if arriving from or transiting a yellow fever endemic country; travel health insurance is recommended

  • Multiple-entry Tourist Visa - valid for up to 12 months with multiple entries, fee USD 100
  • Business Visa - single entry, up to 90 days, fee USD 50, requires an invitation letter from a Tanzanian company
  • Transit Visa - up to 7 days, fee USD 30

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), Kilimanjaro International Airport, Zanzibar International Airport, and major land border posts
  • Steps: complete the arrival form, present passport and supporting documents, pay the fee, and have biometrics captured at the immigration counter
  • Fee: USD 50 (single entry) or USD 100 (multiple entry), payable in cash (USD preferred) or card at major airports
  • Applying online in advance via eservices.immigration.go.tz is strongly recommended to reduce queue times, as arrival processing can take 30-60 minutes during peak periods
  • Queue tip: arrive with exact USD cash to speed up payment, and have printed hotel confirmation ready

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: USD 50 (single entry, tourist) up to USD 100 (multiple entry)
  • No separate service fee for visa on arrival; online pre-application via eservices.immigration.go.tz carries no extra charge
  • Total cost estimate: USD 50-100
  • On-arrival processing: 30-60 minutes depending on airport traffic
  • Online pre-approval processing time: 2-3 business days, with the approval letter presented on arrival to expedite the queue

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply online in advance through eservices.immigration.go.tz to avoid long queues on arrival, especially at Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam airports during peak tourist season
  • Common rejection or delay reasons include missing yellow fever certificates for travelers connecting through endemic countries and insufficient proof of return travel
  • Carry small USD bills for the visa fee, as change is not always readily available
  • Extensions inside Tanzania are handled by the Immigration Department in Dar es Salaam or regional offices, generally allowing up to 90 additional days
  • Combine visa on arrival with proof of a return flight to avoid additional questioning at the border
